A crooked Republican Senator, I am shocked!

I haven't read the whole Act, of course, but the summary written by the Congressional Research Service says that it prohibits the use of non-public information for private profit, including insider trading by members of Congress and other government employees:

Interesting to read that when the STOCK Act passed Senate, Richard Burr was one of the 3 senators to vote against it

If convicted of violating it, they can "be hit with a fine or up to 15 years in prison, or both, including the possibility of being disqualified from holding public office."

You need to read the act. It did help. Before 2012, there was absolutely no restrictions. But it still didn't ban it all together.

Again... that's not true, Affy:

"The STOCK Act, signed into law by President Obama in 2012, bans members of Congress from insider trading. A major component of the bill is that it increases transparency in financial disclosure reporting. First, government officials are required to report certain investment transactions within 45 days of making the trade. And, information in these public financial disclosure reports have to be available online.

"From there evolved into misappropriated information as the basis of insider trading."

Not for Congress. Nothing prevents them from trading on knowledge gained during their professional duties.

Expel them all and lock them all 4 up for insider trading.

FINS, Insider Trading is illegal. Ask Martha Stewart.

Pretty soon the leftist schlitz will want Burr deported.

William Blount was the only US Senator to be impeached. His Senate colleagues voted to dismiss the articles on the grounds that Impeachment didn't extend to Senators.

But, what did they know? Right ?

im·peach
/imˈp"CH/
verb
charge (the holder of a public office) with misconduct.

They can be impeached, which is different from being expelled (which is the actual removal).

Senators cannot be impeached, only expelled.

I thought we decided months ago that Senators couldn't be impeached.

I'm not surprised Anti would try to defend Feinstein.

I've defended no one, I simply copied text from the first article. I'm perfectly in favor of an investigation into all 4.

The problem is that these 4 didn't do anything illegal. Members of congress have always been allowed to make money on proprietary information.

There's nothing to slap anyone's hand for, because what they did isn't illegal. If you don't like it, demand that the law be changed.

Why in ell is this GW thread on GA. Carry your virus laden butts back down the mountain. I told you all we needed to close the borders.

Nobody will get their hands slapped for this left or right. It's the inequality that is baked into the cake at this point and while I hate to agree, f is right that they make the rules.

Besides, we are too busy either being tortured by the prospect of a pandemic on our shores or trying to ignore that's there's one (left and right) to do much oversight.

The senate isn't going to do anything. The problem is that these 4 didn't do anything illegal. Members of congress have always been allowed to make money on proprietary information. They make their own rules. And they aren't going to try to change it. This talk of impeachment is just noise to appease the masses.

A nation is truly corrupted when having...lost its character and it's liberty, it passes from democracy to aristocracy or to monarchy. That is the decrepitude and death of the body politic...
